Browse All TopicsHello,
I host dynamic websites for a variety of clients. My server runs CentOS Linux, Apache, mySQL and PHP.
Yesterday the server froze. I could not access any websites hosted on the server and could not even log in with SSH. I had to request someone at the datacenter to physically reboot it.
The datacenter technicians explained to me that the problem was a traffic spike in load that cause a lot of swapping to happen. There are many many paging faults in some client accounts as well. When it started swapping, this naturally resulting in major page faults when swapping. And this escalated till the whole thing froze.
I don't have alot of control over the page faults in my clients' accounts.
What practical measures should I take to prevent this from happening? I am only hosting 40 sites on the server.
Here are my server specifications:
Gigabyte \ GA-8IG1000MK \ GA-8IG1000MK
Intel \ 2.8 GHz \ Pentium 4
Generic \ 1 GB MB \ DDR 266
Unknown \ Onboard \ IDE
Thanks!
