The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Apache Object not found/File does not exist Error

Asked by RegProctor in Web Servers, Apache Tomcat Application Server

Tags: apache 2.2, error

In my apache I have the lines below in the Server Config section. I know they are getting read because I put a LogFormat just above them and was able to change my log format by doing so.

I am passing a URL like: http://www.wrongurl.com/dev.myurl.com

I'm allowing http://www.wrongurl.com/ to get to my apache server by have my DNS setup to point to the server for wrongurl.com.

My understanding of rewrite is that I could rewrite the URL to a URL that the server was setup for, in this case, http://dev.myurl.com and all would be fine. However, I cannot get the URL to be rewritten. Even when I put the code below to be the very first lines in the httpd.conf file which the first/main conf file to be read.

Instead I get an error in the log like this: [error] [client 192.168.17.1] File does not exist:
and a 404 error in the browser that says: Object not found!

I have apache setup for virtual hosting and have about 6 domains on it that I use locally as I am a web developer. I'm guessing there is some apache setting that I need to loosen up a bit to allow it to process wrongurl.com at all, but that's just a wild guess.

Obviously I should not be sending apache the wrong domain in the first place but this small amount of code (the 3 lines) is just a test that I would like to make work for something more involved.

Is there an apache expert out there that could shed some light on this?

Thanks!
Reg
