Compression in Backup Exec 10d

Hi,

I am using a HP 460 Ultrium drive, in conjunction with Backup Exec 10d. The tapes are only using the 200Gb, so it seems they are using native mode. In Backup exec I have the compression type set to 'hardware'. Should this be set to software?
Or is there usually a setting on the tape drive itself to enable the compressed mode?
