Backup Exec 12 ... Trying to get Overwrite Protection set correctly.

Currently running Backup Exec 12 (just upgraded from 11d). I'm in the midst of trying to streamline our backup procedures. For the past 2 years I have just gone into the backup folders on my server and deleted the older backup files. I'm now wanting to automate the process but I'm lost in the amount of information on how to do this.

Here's my setup as simply as I can put it.

2 jobs for our file system backups.
1st job runs a full backup every friday night and saves all the backups to my "File Backup" folder
(Takes almost 2 days to complete).
2nd job runs a differential Mon - Thurs and saves all the backups to my "File Backup" folder (Takes
          about 10 hours to complete).
After each of these jobs I have a duplicate job that puts them to tape.

1 job that backs up Exchange Mail Store directly to tape and runs everynight.

Under Media in Backup Exec for my File Backup folder I have it set for 1 day of overwrite protection and 10 hours appendable. Under Options and Media Management I have it set to Partial.

Pretty much nothing in the File Backup folder is ever overwritten automatically. I have .bkf files as well as IMGXXXX folders in there that continue to stay there until I delete them manually.

I really only want to keep maybe 2 days worth of backups on disk since everything goes directly to tape anyway. What do I need to get this accomplished? I've researched this several times and have tried different things but nothing every gets overwritten.Start Free Trial
