Here is the scenario& We would have our 2950 VMware ESX server with virtual servers booting from the MD3000i SAN . We use Symantec backup Exec 11d, and want to store certain things from each virtual server ( not the whole virtual machine) using 5 daily backups to the SAN and then go to tape weekly. Is this possible, and is there a document that describes the procedure? Would we install the backup exec agents on each virtual server? Would we run backup exec on a machine outside of the SAN or would we install it on one of the Virtual servers? Is there any speed issues doing it one way or the other? Can we restore specific files to virtual servers without restoring the whole virtual machine?
