PC troubleshooting software

My W98 based machine is beginning to run slowly - I should really reinstall the whole lot but time presses etc.)
However, I did a search for performance analysis tools on the web and the names of various utilities cropped up in various discussion pages.
However, I am always very wary of simply using tools that I cannot find views on so has anyone got any feelings/views/experience on:
PCPITSTOP
PASSMARK.COM
HOUSECALL (by Trendmicros?)
TUNEUP UTILITIES
