My branch office they got some trouble in LAN recently, subject to my information collected; most of the user in branch office has problem while accessing to a Exchange 2003 server via https, this is a server of our email solution provider, we use Outlook 2003 logon to Exchange 2003 via RPC over Https protocol. Also; a user there who is using Remote Desktop Connection on Vista for running an application on a Microsoft Terminal Server at HQ but she got disconnected frequently, at least 5 times a day.
My branch office is using ADSL connection and has a site to site vpn to HQ. I called their ADSL provider but they told me the physical link is very clear, they did not see any problem while running a stress test.
I am wondering if something wrong with their internal LAN such as switch and firewall. I have setup a Network Diagnostic Tool in Linux platform and ready to do diagnostic for them on site. I plan to test the following equipment includes Ethernet switch, workstation, firewall. Can anyone of you give me a clear formal instruction to do diagnostic.
1. how to do diagnostic on network switch.
2. how to do diagnostic on Sonicwall firewall. (I suspect if any defective on this device)
3. how to do diagnostic on ISP's ADSL modem?
4. how to find a network congestion?
thanks in advance.
