Not able to find PCI\VEN_xxxx&DEV_xxxx info in Device Manager

Asked by: anushahanna

There are some unknown devices in device manager. I'm trying to find the exact drivers for
hp D530 computer.  I right clicked on the unknown devices and clicked details tab but the message it gives is " No driver files are required or have been loaded for this device".
I need the driver files for 1.Ethernet controller 2.Multimedia audio controller 3.Universal seriel bus 4. Video Controller(VGA Compatible).

Thanks

There are 5 different components that needs drivers. the surest and fastest way generally will be to get it from Device manager. I have used it that way before. But today i could not spot in there.  You are supposed to see there, not?

by: dbruntonPosted on 2009-11-05 at 19:19:30ID: 25756354

Hmm.  You may need to load the chipset drivers for this motherboard first.  Try that and then see if the devices turn up.

I've noticed that some security features in the HP's we've been using do not have VEN/DEV numbers assoicated with them, I had to download most of the security suite applications to assist in determining the identity of a few unknown devices, even then, there was one I gave up on and ordered the driver CD for that model to determine what the device was.

one thing that MIGHT help is the devcon tool from microsoft... though it can get a bit hairy.  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/311272
running  the command: devcon find * >> devicelist.txt
will give you a list of just about every device in the computer
running  the command: devcon findall * >> devicelist.txt
will give you all devices, including those not presently connected to the computer.

hopefully this helps point you in the right direction.

Ethernet Controller - PCI\VEN_14E4DEV_1696SUBSYS_12BC103CREV_03\31BECA885010F0

Looks like a Broadcom Netxtreme Gigabit driver (Go to http://www.broadcom.com/support/ethernet_nic/downloaddrivers.php for driver) from using the following at Google http://www.google.co.nz/search?hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&channel=s&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-GB%3Aofficial&hs=Nvp&q=PCI\VEN_14E4DEV_1696&btnG=Search&meta=

USB controller PCI\VEN_8086DEV_24DDSUBSYS_12BC103CREV_02\2EBB567FOEF

Video Controller(VGA Compatible) - PCI\VEN_8086DEV_2572DUBSYS_12BC103CREV_02\2EBB567F010

Looks like Intel Graphics using the following at Google http://www.google.co.nz/search?hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&channel=s&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&hs=j6p&ei=YLb1StanNIH8tQPJxugS&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&ved=0CBMQBSgA&q=PCI\VEN_8086%26DEV_2572&spell=1

Try this for Intel drivers

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx

and there's an Intel driver update link there if you get the networking sorted.

I download the zip file for ethernet controller. There are 3 files - Security catalog, Setup information, System file. (no executable). How does that work.

by: anushahannaPosted on 2009-11-07 at 10:36:03ID: 25767460

the link for the NIC was http://www.broadcom.com/support/ethernet_nic/driver-sla.php?driver=570x-XP-32, but not sure what to do wtih the 3 files

by: dbruntonPosted on 2009-11-07 at 11:09:46ID: 25767616

the link for the NIC was http://www.broadcom.com/support/ethernet_nic/driver-sla.php?driver=570x-XP-32, but not sure what to do wtih the 3 files

In Device Manager for the Ethernet controller you should be able to point it to the folder containing the three files.  It should then update the ethernet controller and allow you network access.

If it does then access the Intel site http://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx  and use the Intel driver update feature.  If that doesn't work post back.

Thanks. Ethernet is good now.

When intel is doing the update, IE is crashing. Is it because the patches are not yet applied?

by: dbruntonPosted on 2009-11-07 at 13:07:13ID: 25768042

>> Is it because the patches are not yet applied?

Unknown.  Try a reboot and you may find the crashes go away.  Is this XP or 2003 server and what service packs have been applied?

by: alanhardistyPosted on 2009-11-07 at 13:07:19ID: 25768044

What is the exact model of the machine please?

It will be something like 754637-521.

by: anushahannaPosted on 2009-11-07 at 13:09:58ID: 25768059

dbrunton, it XP Pro SP2. reboot did not help.

alanhardisty, the model is Compaq/HP d530 CMT base model Win XP Pro. Does that make sense?

by: dbruntonPosted on 2009-11-07 at 13:56:50ID: 25768222

gecko_au2003 recommended using SIW http://www.gtopala.com

Try that or Unknown Devices http://www.halfdone.com/Development/UnknownDevices/UnknownDevices.zip or both of them.

Both are free and will be more informative than the Vendor numbers presently using.

by: alanhardistyPosted on 2009-11-07 at 14:41:04ID: 25768420

What is the code from the sticker? Should have some other details to speify the model.
