Partition is corrupt - how do I repair it?

My client brought in her laptop for me to resize the partition today.  I popped the hard drive out of it and put it in my bench computer.  When I ran Partition Magic, it said that a partition table had errors.  I said "no" to all the repairs it wanted to do (six, total) and when the main program loaded, my client's hard drive had a partition of type "bad."  I exited Partition Magic and reopened it and I foolishly clicked "yes" to all six repairs it wanted to make.  This was the solution to the "bad" problem in the past, but this time the partition still came up as "bad."  At this point, I could no longer access her data.

The 40GB drive originally had the following partitions:

Acer recovery (Type 18)  4.88GB
Acer programs(FAT32)    ~15GB
Acer data (FAT32)           ~15GB

The data partition was completely empty and the programs partition was 328MB shy of being full, so I was going to eliminate the former and extend the latter to 30GB.  

Now the partitions look like this:

Acer recovery                    4.88GB
Next partition (RAW)           7.95GB
Next partition (Free space) 8.00GB
Next partition (RAW)           16.43GB

I tried to put the drive back in the Acer and it wouldn't even try to boot.  I get a black screen after the POST.  

I have run Partition Table Doctor on it, but I tried every option to fix the boot sector and it wasn't able to do it.  

I have run Ontrack EasyRecovery, and I can get the files - but with no file name information.  It won't recognize the FAT32 partition.  

Finally, I have run DiskInternals Partition Recovery and it recognized the FAT32 partitions, but I get 80,000+ files and folders that are 100% crazy characters.

Isn't there some way to roll back whatever Partition Magic scrambled?  I have access to Windows and Linux machines and I am willing to purchase whatever software will fix this.
