The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Rsstoring Root Directory or Partion from a non-accessable Disk drive (a non boot disk)

I was attempting to remove a date and power cable from a drive from my system. I powered the system down and failed to check whether Windows had completely shut down and apparently removed the data cable before it did a full shut down.

When I powered the system back up, realizing what I had done and re-cabled the disk, I received an error message saying that the drive needed to be formatted. The system saw the drive but could not read from it.  Realizing that I needed to recover files from the disk ASAP, I used the program Power Data Recovery and was able to retrieve most of the files, thank god. However, the program indicated that there was about 15GB of Lost Files out of 160GB. When I look at try to open these files, they appear corrupted.

Two questions;
   1) Is there any better way to recover or repair these lost files?

   2) Is there any way to repair the root directory or partition this drive? It is not a drive the system boots to
When I run On-Track Date Recover, the program recognizes the disk as "Unidentified "with no
Drive letter or file structure.  When I examine the drive using the demo version of PTDD Partition Table
       It shoes the following info:

    Partition      Active       Description            Start        Space
    ---------      --------       -------------             -------       -------
                                                                    C   H   S
     1 <G>       No               HPFS/NTFS        0    1   1      190799

This is a 200GB western digital drive

Any help on this problem would be greatly appreciated?
