I am unable to install new programs on a Windows 2003 domain controller running service pack 2. Even trying to install the Windows Installer cleanup utility(from hard disk, downloaded to the C: drive) gives an Installation ended prematurely because of a an error.
Background: This started out as a failed attempt to install the QuickBooks 2007 Database Server Manager. The program would get to the end, then roll-back(usually a .net framework issue). Tried to install .net framework 2 which also rolled back and failed to install. I have run the .net framework cleanup utility from
http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner. I then repaired .net framework 1.1 from the original installation CD and reinstalled service pack 2 for Windows 2003 server to reinstall service pack 1 for .net framework 1.1. None of these steps resolved the issue--I still cannot install Quickbooks, .net framework 2, or even the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.
