Question

Installing and publishing applications on Citrix Presentation Server 3.0

Asked by: raisharad

Hi,

This is my first installation and my question is:

1. How to install one of our client/server application on the presentation server that  the ICA clients can use it?
(My idea is: install the entire client side application on the presentation server itself as it is installed on a regular domain PC and then publish it so the user so they could use it from their ICA sessions. Is this the right way?) And does the same thing apply with MS OFFICE?

2. If it is just one server, do I need to install SQL MSDE to create server farm?

Thanks
Sharad

We have a similar setup.  I've done it by simply installing the application on the presentation server.  That is, you would run the setup for that app the same way you would on a PC.  Then publish it so the user can access it from their ICA sessions.

Don't know the answer to question #2 since we only have one Citrix server.

Hope this helps.

for an Office install a Transform file will be required.  Filename.mst.  you might be able to find one on the microsoft website.  Or you can download the Office resource kit and create a transform file.  you will need to install office using Add/Remove progams and point to the transform file.
it will look somehting like this.

e:\setup.exe TRANSFORM="c:\filename.mst"

as for the Farm.  You are required to create a farm even if you only have one server.  By doing this you create the dataStore (Access or SQL MSDE)  SQL MSDE is a new feature in Metafrmae XP FR3 and Presentation server 3.0.  I do not know many companies running this.  I have done many setups on Access without any problems.
