The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Win2K Terminal Services Logon Issue

Asked by lrdavis9200 in Citrix

I believe this is a Windows 2K issue, not a Citrix problem.  Just in case I am submitting this problem to both OS and Citrix forums.  Please read full question before evaluating your expertise on this one:

I have a W2K SP4 and Citrix MetaFrame 1.8.  I just installed the last batch of Windows Critical Updates.  I don't have a count or names of which ones....I just blindly accepted what was there and installed them.  If I had to guess, the last six issued.  The first problem is this.  After the install and reboot, I cannot get a particular user to gain access to her Citrix session.  It goes through the motions then generates the following error on the client side after two attempts to connect:

"MetaFrame Presentation Server connection interupted.  An unrecoverable error has occured.  No further reconnections will be attempted.  Please close this dialog box and try again later."

Same dialog box after clicking the 'More Information' button:

"Network or dial-up problems are preventing communication with the Citrix MetaFrame server.

If the problem persists, please contact your network administrator.

Number of failed reconnection attempts: 1
Connection name: MAS200 Remote
Server address: (Our MetaFrame server IP is listed correctly here)
Client name: (Correct client name is listed here)"

Second problem:  After much time spent on attempting to correct the Citrix client side I decided to try to log in with an RDP session (not locally) as an administrator to the same server.  Here's the error I received:

"The remote computer disconnected the session because of an error in the licensing protocol.  Please try connecting to the remote computer again or contact your server administrator."

I did some searching and tried setting the date back 90 days previous to today.  I was able to log on via RDP as administrator once.  The second time I was given the same error as before.  Both times I still could not log in via a Citrix session as the particular user I am trying to get logged on.

I check the Event Viewer and found two instances of errors:

First Error:

"The Terminal Services Licensing server USFW_TS has no license pack registered for product 'Windows 2000 Terminal Services Client Access License'.  Use Terminal Services Licensing administrative tool to register the license pack."

Second Error:

"The terminal server cannot issue a client license."

I have ran into similar situations with Windows Critical Updates before.  One time Microsoft had an undocumented fix they didn't make the public aware of.  I can't remember the situation (old age is setting in) that led me to contacting Microsoft to solve that particular one.  Maybe someone has a contact number for them that covers these issues?

This is a critical situation as this server hosts our legacy accounting application and is accessed nationally.
