Does citrix require MS SQL server ?

Hi Experts,

I was trying to setup citrix, so far I have not configure citix with ms sql yet. Just wondering, does citrix require ms sql ? and what for ? Thanks.

Citrix uses a SQL database for user setups permissions and the shadow feature.  Let it have what it watns as SQL Express is a free download (And included on the citrix installation media too i beleive.)

You can use a SQL database for the data store, but it is not required (but most would recommend it if you have multiple servers).

If you install citrix and do not indicate a SQL data store it will automatically create an Access database for your store on the first server.  Any additional servers will now use the first server for their datastore.

The problem with Access datastores is twofold:  mdb's corrupt much more often and are not as easy to maintain; also, you have a single point of failure in a single PS system.

Data Store contains configuration data about the entire farm like published applications and desktops, farm administrators and their permissions, policies, load evaluators, server settings, etc.

Citrix support Microsoft SQL Server, IBM DB2, Microsoft Access or Microsoft SQL Server Express Edition as Data Store.

Citrix require Data Store and it can be on any of the abode Database. So MS_SQL is not essenstial if you want to use some other Database.

There are several databases that can be used for the Farm Data Store but the Access database requires no preinstall configuration on your part.  The databases available for selection are:
"      Access
"      SQL Server Express
"      SQL Server
"      Oracle
"      DB2
====

You are not required to use SQL Server.  With the amount of documentation available on support.citrix.com, I would believe that the vast majority of Citrix Farms use Microsoft SQL Server for their data store.
