When you state that you removed the extra directories and registry settings, did you make sure to delete the ones under the user's profile? The App Cache is stored in the user's local profile and will persist though a reinstall.

With the user logged in close all instances of the Citrix client in delete %userprofile%\Application Data\ICAClient as well as run regedit and delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software
Then start the Citrix client again and see if it resolves the issue.
