Browse All TopicsMy PC is extremely fast running under XP. However, when I connect remotely to the office via Citrix "Published Desktop", then switch to TN3270 and back, the Citrix desktop does not repaint., except for the top and bottom screen bar.
At that point, the only way I can cause the screen to repaint is by right clicking the bottom bar and selecting "Show the Desktop" . Another way is by slowly moving the cursor over the "phantom" screen area in which case various icons begin to appear. I did research the issue on Google and found plenty of people experiencing the same problem but no one seems to have a solution. Any suggestion as to the cause?

What application are you running from Citrix? Several applications have known painting issues in a seamless environment, including one from Citrix - the XenApp Advanced Configuration.
Also, some applications do not running in a color mode less than 16bit, with a few coming to mind that only like 32bit.
10.1 is old for sure.
If you connect to the Citrix server but to a published desktop (assuming this is a published application), do you have the issue?
If you connect using RDP (the Microsoft RDP client, MSTSC.EXE), assuming you are allowed to do that and that port TCP 3389 is allowed to your Citrix/TS, do you have the issue?

In answer to Jacob78 question:
Within Citrix "Published Desktop" any and all applications work just fine. It is when I switch to TN3270 and back that the problem occurs. When I return, the "Published Desktop" should repaint immediately. Instead the TN3270 image remains. Only the 4 borders of the "Published Desktop" are visible. That's when I have to "play games" to manually force the screen to repaint via "Show the Desktop".
Another way the lack of repainting is obvious is if I left click on the top blue bar and drag the window part way down my monitor screen, then - without releasing the mouse - I bring the window back to its original position; the result is similar as if I had "dipped the window in white paint". The whole area that was momentarily "under water" (so to speak) looks like a white canvas and has not been repainted. The area that was not dipped under remains properly painted.
In answer to tsmvp:
I apologize but I don't understand your first question.
As concerns the second question, "connecting using RDP (Microsoft MSTSC.exe)", I am not familiar with it.
In answer to Jacob78
(1) I connect via Comcast high-speed Internet and have plenty of speed.
(2) I use 16-bit colors under Citrix. (Incidentally I am not "publishing" anything, only accessing various applications under Citrix "Published Desktop" [Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, etc..] and also switching back and forth to TN3270 in order to connect to an IBM mainframe).
(30 The problem occurs whether I am using a fixed or seamless window. Some websites claim that the problem should occur only in a seamless environment. That is not true in my case.
It really feels like some developer - somewhere in the system - failed to include a refresh command under ordinary conditions. Interestingly enough, if I leave the Citrix Published Desktop ON while going to lunch and come back 45 minutes later, by then a logon dialog box will appear in which case, the problem doesn't occur as the logon box forces a refresh of the screen. Otherwise I have to manually cause the screen to repaint hundreds of time every day and this becomes both time consuming and tiresome.
One other consideration: some websites suggest that IE 8.0 sometimes causes similar behavior. While I do have IE 8.0 installed on my workstation, I am not sure I understand what relationshiip - if any - this might have with Citrix.
Finally got a resolution today.
For anyone experiencing the same problem, this is what I did:
(1) Downloaded the Citrix Online Plug-in located at: http://www.citrix.com/Engl
Please note that there is also a "Citrix Online Plug-in WEB" for those who wish to access Citrix from a Browser.
(2) Because the Plug-in no longer downloads or supports Program Neighborhood, I had to download CitrixQuickLaunch1.2.exe which can be found at: http://support.citrix.com/
You then get the following dialog box from which to set your options and launch the application.
Bottom line: SLOW REPAINTING PROBLEM IS GONE. Screens now repaint instantly.

1. Which Citrix server version do you have?
2. Are you running the latest XenApp Receiver 11.2 (the new name for the Citrix client)?
