Question

Citrix MFCOM service not running

Asked by: josephwalsh

I have a Citrix Xenapp 5 installed on Windows Server 2008 Ent. x86
I was creating a new Web interface server, but the AMC could not connect to the RPC server.
Looking at the Citrix, I saw that the Citrix MFCOM service the status showed it was 'stopping' and Startup Type showed 'disabled'.
When I went to change the Startup Type I got a message 'marked for deletion' etc.
I restarted the server and now the Citrix MFCOM service does not show at all.
The old Web Interface server is still working fine.

Any ideas ?

I don't really understand what you are trying to do.

Are you trying to add the WI server to the mgmt console on a XenApp server?  Can't be done.
Are you trying to add a XenApp server to the mgmt console on a WI server?  Can't be done.

MFCOM is necessary for XenApp servers to see each other in the mgmt console.  A WI server can only see and manage itself in its mgmt console so the MFCOM service is not needed.

I am installing a second Windows Interface and Secure Gateway on a new server.
When this is complete I will demote the old Windows Interface/Secure Gateway server.
I installed AMC & Windows interface on the new server.
I now want to create the website. In order to configure & run discovery does not the server need to see the farm.
By the way, there is only one Citrix server on the farm. When I run discovery on the new server I get the message 'RPC server is unavailable etc' when trying to connect to the farm. I presumed that the MFCOM service not running the the Citrix server was part of the problem.

Is the new CSG/WI server have XenApp installed on it?  Or is it only a CSG/WI server?

If it only has CSG/WI on it then it does not "see" the farm in the normal sense.  It "sees" the farm when you create a site and tell it what servers to use to get farm info.  That is usually the data collector if you have a dedicated zone data collector.  Otherwise it can be any one or more of the xenapp servers in the farm.

The new CSG/WI does not have XezApp installed, and as I said before there is only one XenApp server in the farm.
The is a small installation, less than 20 users.

Then MFCOM is not needed on the CSG/WI server.  You cannot discover the XenApp server from the WI mgmt console and you cannot discover the WI server from the XenApp mgmt console.  Just cannot be done.

I know that MGCOM is not needed on the WI/CSG server.
At the console of the WI/CSG server, I am running the AMC and running discovery on that.
It should see the XenApp server when I specify the IP address even though the WI/CSG server is on the DMZ.
How can I create the website if I cannot run discovery and see the XenApp server.
This is part of the installation documentation provided by Citrix.

Just right-click web interface and select Create Site.

When I used V3.1 to install Web Interface the above worked.
I have some other issues, but I will post them on another question.
