Question

Citrix CAG & Licence

Asked by: badabing1

Hi,
I have series 2000 (i think) with 4.2 software, i need to upgrade this as it keeps hanging after few days which requires a reboot, unless anyone knows a fix. I have read various article on google, but need your expert help! Can anyone please assit?

If it  come to re-building it with a new firmware, does that mean i will need to upload new licences in CAG. If that is the case where do i get the licences from and why can i not use the exisiting licence?

Finally, our SSL certificate will expire soon. We have web interface as well as CAG. I know that SSL certificate will need uploading on CAG, is there any other place i need to upload too as well??

Thanks in advance and i will allocate 500 points for this!!!

You can do an upgrade to 4.5 and then patch it to 4.5.1 and it will keep your config and license and SSL keys.

Or you can do a full install of 4.5 and then patch it to 4.5.1.  You will need to backup your config first.  You will then need to reinstall your license file and SSL cert.  This would be a good time to go ahead and use your renewed SSL cert.

I have seen reports of SSL cert renewals when the firmware has been upgraded instead of replaced.

Only your CAG needs the SSL cert id that is currently the only place you have it.

Been a long while since I looked.  Looks like there is now:

AG 4.5.6 Standard - Upgrade Software

AG 4.5.8 Standard - Upgrade Software

I found those under Access Gateway 4.5 Standard Edition Hotfixes.

by: badabing1Posted on 2009-11-10 at 04:48:01ID: 25784763

so your saying now i can upgrade from 4.2 direct to 4.5.6 or 4.5.8? do i not need to upgrade to 4.5 first and then to 4.5.6 and then 4.5.8?

cheers

by: CarlWebsterPosted on 2009-11-10 at 04:53:45ID: 25784804

4.5 and then 4.5.6 or 4.5.8.  .6 and .8 are hotfixes.

The readme for .8 says it is for 4.5 appliances.

But  its only compatible with below- i have WI 4.2 and PS3 in my farm, which means it will not work?

The following table provides the Citrix product names and versions that Access Gateway Standard Edition is compatible with.

Citrix Product Release Version
XenApp 4.5 (Windows Server 2003 ) and 5.0 (Windows Server 2003 and 2008)
Web Interface 4.5, 4.6, and 5.0
XenDesktop 2.0
NetScaler 8.0 and 8.1
WANScaler 4.3.26 and 4.3.27
Access Gateway Advanced Edition 4.5 AAC450W003 and 4.5 AAC450W004

please can you clarify what is best upgrade path for 4.2 CAG?

Thanks

Then stay with 4.5.6.

http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX115402

There is no table that shows compatible product versions.  4.5.8 introduced a new interface for clients which is why the product versions are restricted.

Ok Thanks, i will perform this upgrade, is there anything else you can think of which may also need upgrading that i may have missed i.e Web interface etc?

Thanks

Not much diff between WI 4.2 and 4.6.

You might also want to upgrade your license server to 11.6.1.

is the licenece server upgrade nescessary?

by: CarlWebsterPosted on 2009-11-10 at 07:15:38ID: 25786151

Not required or necessary but would get you ready for any upgrade to a more recent version of PS/XA.
