Unable to open Excel doc pointing to the Citrix public apps when not on a thin client.

When on a local IE app instead of the Published app IE and clicking on any excel doc listed on our SharePoint site, which is also mapped to the Excel published citrix app, I am given the error '\\document path\exceldocname.xlsx' cannot be found.  Check your spelling, or try a different path.
If I browse to the doc location with File Explorer and try to open the document it gives me the same error.
If I open the IE published app, and click on the link or enter the document path, the doc opens without issue.

What do you get from the assoc command for .xlsx files?
From a command prompt type:
assoc .xlsx

Then use the output from this with the ftype command. so on a PC with local Excel 2007 I get the following:

C:\Users\robin>assoc .xlsx
.xlsx=Excel.Sheet.12

C:\Users\robin>ftype Excel.Sheet.12
Excel.Sheet.12="C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\EXCEL.EXE" /e

ASKER

I tried running that on a local computer and it did not resolve the issue.  I noticed that this is only an issue when docs are opened in "edit" mode.
