Xenapp 6 installation on Windows server 2008 R2 fails with error code 1603

I'm trying to install Xenapp6 on Win 2008 R2 evaluation edition. I have two Vms on Xenserver. One is a domain controller and on other am trying to install Xenapp6 but fails when installation xenapp. Other components were installed properly like Microsoft c++. RDP services host installed. Application server>network com +. Added account to DCOM group. Haven't activated RDP licensing as thought to active later.

Please note that I created a first VM on Xenserver. Converted it to a template. Using sysprep, installed Domain controller. Again using template i tried creating Xenapp6 but it failed.

Installation was performed after adding computer to domain account and not with local account. Made sure there are no previous version of Microsoft c++. Admin account used for installation

Attaching log files from temp folder.

Please suggest where the problem could be

When I install XenApp 6, I let the installer install everything.  I install Server 2008 R2, update it and then install XenApp 6.

I have done this install routine probably close to 100 times and have never had an issue.
Was the VM created from a template that had domain controller functionality installed?  If so, installation will fail; XenApp cannot be installed on a domain controller.

As Carl indicated, you just need your base OS and XA6 installation will do everything else for you.

No.. DC was not installed when i created a template. after Windows R2 was installed, i didn't run update. Ran sysprep. Shut down the system. Made it as a template. Then created domain controller, installed license server, WI server, SQL (even though not recommended). Again using the baseline template, installed RDP host. application server, dcom etc. Then ran auto run of xenapp. selected platinum edition. Xenserver. and gave install. It installed components (microsoft c++). 1603 means fatal. could this be due to fact that xenapp6 setup was not proper? I used xenserver's DVD containing ISO image of xenapp6.
OR am i missing any.. Else I have to redo from first.
As much time as you have spent on this, why not just start over?

Install 2008 R2 from scratch and not your template.  Apply WIndows updates.  Install XenApp 6 letting the XA6 installer install all the prereqs.
According to citrix KB CTX126640 this error is due to C++ being installed, try uninstalling or building a new OS image.

Ok Carl, hope that is the only option as of now.. @moosesupport:That Citrix article is a crap, it didn't fix the issue which I tried already.

I still couldn't find a solution on this. I don't know what else I can do here. Following are done:

1. Installed latest windows updates, ran xenapp server install , still same error
2. Tried on a different VM in Xenserver, still the same problem.
3. Downloaded fresh ISO, but no go
4. My colleague was able to install it on a VMware workstation without any issues as he selected all components.
5. Got the same image from him and started from scratch
6. Installed Xenserver 5.5, WK28 standard edition (evaluation) R2, it's a workgroup. Just logged in using administrator account, default one. Installed Xenserver tools, selected ISO image of Xenapp6
7. It had installed, Remote desktop, went for a reboot, app server components, c++, group policy. Next component was xenapp and it also said xenapp management console skipped. In middle, I got a message "some roles may not have been installed... etc" and it ended.

Checked the log files, couldn't find any info. Just understood some fatal error1603. Checked eventlogs, I found one error" Citrix\System32\Citrix\IMA\SubSystems\ImaAdminSs.dll was not found with MSI installer. I went to the source file, and navigated to the location. There was  no IMAadminss.dll.

Again not sure, because using the same image my colleague was able to install with VMworkstation. Also IMAadmin file wasn't there in that source.

Still wondering where the problem could be.. I could see some disk error,, so I have run chkdsk and let me see how it goes after that.
I have installed XA6 and 6.5 more time than I can count and have never run into this issue.

Even in stand-alone workgroup mode, this is what I do:

I use XenServer
create the initial VM based on Server 2008 R2 64-bit (as if there is a 32-bit!)
I use the Server 2008 R2 SP1 ISO file
when the VM is created and before doing any configuration of anything, install XenTools, reboot
activate the server OS
change the time zone
assign a static IP
enable automatic updating and feedback
start server manager
configure remote desktop
configure server manager remote management
configure IE ESC (I turn off for both)
back to Initial Configuration Taks
provide computer name
reboot

after reboot, install all Windows updates (I chose the show me more updates option), reboot and keep checking for updates until there are none left.  I do NOT install .Net 4 or IE9.  For those two, I right-click and select hide this update.

after all the updates are installed, reboot.

mount the xenapp 6 ISO and start the install.  I Let XenApp 6 install all the prereqs.  I do not install the clients or web interface unless this is going to be the only server in the lab.

Thanks for that Carl.. Can you do me one more favour? Can you please check if the installation source has the below file? It should be under xenapp server folder i guess.

Citrix\System32\Citrix\IMA\SubSystems\ImaAdminSs.dl

basraj, to late, I have already powered down my XenApp 6 labs.  I have some PVS & XenApp 5 work to do for a customer.  I reuse server names and IP addresses between lab VMs so I can't power on my XA6 VMs until much later today.  Sorry, paying customers first! LOL

@Carl: No issues, let me know when you have time..

@udsmr:  Interesting....So after using magic ISO, did you verify if that file exists?

So I think the only problem here is with the source.. Let me try that.. But again I did use magic iso if I remember (at one stage i guess)
right click the iso and choose the mount option from within the MagicIso Menu option and NOT the extract option(s).  This will prompt you to install their virtual cd/dvd drive.  you'll eventually run the install from the mounted ISO from their virtual cd/dvd drive from My Computer
basraj, in XenServer you can mount the ISO file and then explore the DVD and copy all the files and folders to the C drive.  I have done that in the VMs I have developed for a customer to deliver customized training.  I will be taking my monster XS host with me for the class but not my ISO share.  I copy all the XA5, XA6, XA6.5 and PVS 5.6 SP1 files into each VM.  Have never had a problem with installing using that method.

Problem here is the installation source.
