Trying to reinstall pcAnywhere 12.0. on a W2K machine that has its memory copied from another machine that has a fried motherboard. What I'm trying to say is that there are trace files of a previous working pcAnywhere 12.0 install scattered on the machine. I'm encountering error 1723: There is a problem with Windows Installer Package. A dll required for this install to complete could not be run..."
Can anyone help me wipe this scattered fragments away so that it will install???
I found these instructions on the internet but was not succesful in completing either one.
Situation:
While installing pcAnywhere 11.0, you receive the error message, "Error: 1722 (or 1723) . . . a required .dll could not be run." You want to know what you can do to fix this problem.
Solution:
This error can occur if a previous installation of pcAnywhere aborted, or if you once had a beta version of pcAnywhere installed. To fix this problem follow all of the steps listed below:
To uninstall the aborted or beta installation of pcAnywhere 11.0
On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Run.
Type MsiExec.exe /x {E05E8183-866A-11D3-97DF-0

9} /qb into the Open box.
Press Enter or click OK.
