The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

My home PC as HTTP proxy from work: how can I do?

Tags: proxy, home, pc, my, work
Hello, from work I have limited access to a wide range of websites which I would be interested to visit anyway; most known sites on many categories are blocked, but I can reach my public IP home address.

I can ONLY use Http/Ftp through a proxy to exit.

My question is: is there a FREE way to use my home PC as a proxy server from work, or even better, to remote control it via HTTP?

Hello

Remote Desktop Sharing can help you, you just need to add port outgoing 3389 at your home router and you can access your pc via public IP from your office by typing this command on RUN "mstsc.exe", this is more secure solution I do the same from my office to home.

Regards

I have no router, just a modem; I only need my fixed PC's IP? How shall I type the password and stuff? Can you give me a little more detailed informations on how to do this?

This doesn't work over Http. Sorry, that doesn't answer my question.

06.18.2007 at 11:38PM PDT, ID: 19313710
There are quite a lot of solutions that work over simple HTTP(over firewalls).
Check out this product tour.
http://www.teamviewer.com/products/firststeps.aspx
It explains step by step how to connect and control another PC over internet.
Some of the steps mentioned in the above link doesnt actually need 2 ppl to complete as long as in ur home computer u just run the connector program as a scheduled job. Let me know if this suits u.

It is not abandoned, but no solution worked. I tried pradeepkumargenie's solution but doesn't work through HTTP only.

I'm not stingy for the points, but I definitely don't want a (potentially) misleading answer to become a feature EE solution.

I totally agree with the sentiment but as you did not bother to respond from your last post, we have to make assumptions sometimes. This is why we give four days (as per the message) to get feedback from all parties with an interest in the question before an action is put into place.

Thanks

keith

Hi,
Could you please elaborate on what dint work. I dint know that it dint work for you. It should be working through HTTP. Any errors you got?

Hello pradeepkumargenie, thanks for coming back after so much time.

I installed it on both my work machine and the home machine I want to connect to; the home machine has a public IP address that allows it to run servers which are visible from other computers.

I then proceeded to have the DynGate running in Host Mode on my home PC, and tried to connect to it by entering my home PC's IP address in the TeamViewer application. This didn't work (just timed out).

Of course I tried to play around with the settings, but what is not clear to me is where I should tell TeamViewer about my proxy settings. I disabled UDP connection because I know I can't reach home with UDP, and disabled DynGate router because I don't know how it will be contacted as I only have Http flow available.

Are there other necessary steps I am missing? For your information, I managed to connect to a webserver running on port 80 on my home PC from my office one.

07.24.2007 at 12:43AM PDT, ID: 19554132
Host mode allows you to make teamviewer running in the background.

I think you should not be turning of DynGate router as that is what allows you to make use of HTTP - port 80 instead of the default port 5900 that Teamviewer uses.

To setup the proxy settings on your work machine, click on DynGate Options in the General Tab and on the bottom there is a proxy settings button. Click on it to set your proxy settings(your work networks proxy).

Let me know if this works.

Ok I will try this tomorrow - now I'm in the office and can't setup DynGate there.
Thanks again for your support even after so much time, I hope I will be able to award the points.
