Can't connect to RD Gateway

Setup a RD Gateway on 2008 SP2.  When attempting to connect from any client (XP/win07), get the following error:

"Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because the Remote Desktop Gateway server is temporarily unavailable.  Try reconnection later or contact your network administrator for assistance."

The connect from anywhere settings in the clients Remote Desktop settings are set to remote.mydomainname.com.  A Certificate is installed and appears to work, because if I use the gateway server name instead, I get a certificate error:

"Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because the Remote Desktop Gateway server address requested and the certificate subject name do not match."

However it doesn't seem to get past that, because there are no errors or events in the TerminalServices-Gateway Admin or Operational logs.  Nothing.

The default site in IIS is bound to 443 with the proper Certificate selected.
I've reinstalled the gateway role, tried using a self-signed certificate instead.  The CAPS and RAPs are fine I'm sure, but that doesn't matter as it isn't even getting to that point.

Any ideas?  Thanks,
