I'm having issues trying to connect to devices on two networks connected via WAN from a remote location using VPN (RAS in Windows 2003 Advanced Server). Setup is as follows:
Location A is on 192.168.0.X
Location B is on 192.168.1.X
Location C (remote locaiton) is on 192.168.1.X, same as Location B
Locations A & B are connected via WAN
Location C connects to Location A via VPN
- Computers on Location A can connect to the device on Location B if their gateway is set to the router (192.168.0.254) and not the DHCP server (192.168.0.1).
- When I dial in over VPN from Location C, it assigns the computer a 192.168.0.X address
- Location C connects to the device on Location A without a problem.
- Location C does NOT connect to Location B.
- When pinging 192.168.1.X devices from Location C, the only ones that respond are those on its own network, which leads me to believe that Location C is using the IP address on its Local Area Connection to connect to 192.168.1.X devices.
NOTE: If I connect to Location A via VPN from other locations (home, other offices, etc.) I can connect to devices at both Locations A & B. I am only running into problems when connecting from Location C.
Is there a way to do one of the following:
- Manually assign a static IP address complete with gateway to computers that dial into Location A
- Keep the computers at Location C from using the IP address on its Local Area Connection to connect to 192.168.1.X devices
Or perhaps there's another option here that I'm missing. I've considered changing the IP scheme at the remote location as well as getting external IPs for the devices but the former is beyond my jurisdiction and I'd like to fully exhaust the current possibilities before doing the latter.
