I have a Windows 2003 Server that you can connect to through an RDC connection. Of course, in RDC you can choose your local printer in the Local Resources area when making a connection, so you can print locally. Even with the box selected, I was unable to do this. I read thru the wonderful knowledge base of past questions, and realized that I had to install my driver on the Server I was connecting with, as well as having it local to my PC. THIS DID WORK.
Now, here is the problem...
My driver was easily installed on the Server. I have a Canon i960 printer. There are two other people in the office that need to print locally at home (while on maternity leave), while connecting back to the server. I know I probably just need to install the driver, but am having a helluva time trying to do so.
They have HP, Photosmart All-In-One type printers. (For example, one of them is a model HP psc 1315v). I cannot figure out how to install just the driver. It is a whole software install kinda thing. I big 58 Meg .exe file that you have to run to install the driver and software. So, if I try to run that install on the server, it doesn't get far because it ask you to connect the printer to the machine (server). Of course, the printer is not there, it is at the clients house.
Is there a way to install the driver only, without having to run the software CD program? Can I "extract" the driver from that program somehow? I have tried looking at HP's download area, and the only download I see, is the actual entire Install program.
I am starting to think my only option is to bring the printer into the business to locally hook it up to the USB port on the server, and do the install.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
