I read sometime ago whilst working on a Q here, That supposedly, it is best practice that when running TS Farms, to scrap any 3rd party vendors drivers and run all printers, from all vendors, via Native Windows Drivers....
Now i love this idea, especially as i run many HP Printers and a few Canon Printers, which wreak havoc with my Spooler Subsystems...Printing is the never ending nightmare with 2003 terminal services. I know 2008 resolves most of these issues, but its not an option for me to move to 2008 server due to application limitations on the current systems....
I also hate an environment where a local print server, shares printers, which clients connect to, and then redirect into their terminal server session in a different site...So i am going to be moving all the machines in that office, to a "local" installed Network Printer - all the old printers are going to be on individual Print Servers to make them network accessible
Now my Q's
1) Did i read correctly and does anyone run it this way? If so, was there an improvement
2) Should i expect some improvement with the "locally" installed network printers
3) Buggered if i know where in the world you find a list of compatible windows drivers for printers - I am looking at the following initially if anyone has any ideas which native drivers work...
a) HP 3005
b) HP 2420N
c) HP 1160
d) HP 5652
e) CanonIRC 3220
f) Canon 2410
any thoughts would be great, i am well familiar with TS and windows servers, but the printing has always been a prick of a thing....
