So I just need to install Vine server on the mac os X. Can I use Realvnc or Ultravnc as viewer from a windows??

You can use any viewer you want for the windows system..  You just might not get all the functionality you are used to like file transfer or some other things depending on the server...

You don't need to install the Vine Server if you are running OS 10.4 or better. There is a VNC server built in to Mac OS 10.4.

To access the MAC machine using VNC Viewer you have to follow these steps.

1. Launch the System Preferences.
2. Select the Sharing preferences.
3. Enable Apple Remote Desktop within the Services panel.
4. Enable VNC viewers may control screen with password: in the Access Privileges& sheet.
5. Enter a hard to guess pass phrase. You will need this to connect from the remote computer.
6. Click OK to save your settings.
You are now running a VNC server and you can connect remotely to your Mac by using any VNC viewer program

With the RealVNC and the TightVNC I was not able to get a connection from WindowsXP to MacOSX 10.5
On the following site:
http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/2006/04/13/remote-access-apple-mac-os-x-via-windows/
I found a hint that the macosx included vnc server is heavily modified that standard viewer does not work. It seams to me that there must be something true.

My solution was to install a new VNC Server "Vine Server (OSXvnc)" from source forge on MacOSX. On the WindowsXP the RealVNC Viewer works fine with the IP address and the port numbers.
