Netgear DG834N and VNC port forwarding

I have a Netgear DG834N with a static IP address, I have set up ports 5500,5800 and 5900 to be forwarded to my iMac so that I can use remote screen sharing.

BackToMyMac is enabled and I have checked that I can connect to the iMac internally from a PC with VNC viewer.

For some reason if I connect from an external source I get the VNC password prompt, enter the password, see a blank screen for a few seconds and then the session disconnects.  I can only think it's a port forwarding problem as I can connect to the iMac using a VNC viewer from another internal machine.
