Question

DHCP causes VNC to lose connection due to IP chane if restarted or connection is lost

I have Tight VNC working great remotely but anytime my computer loses internet connectivity or restarts the DHCP picks up a new IP address and the connection is not possible remotely until I go back to the VNC server computer and see what the new IP address is.

Is there anyway to prevent this from happening if my ISP does not provide a static IP address. I have a belkin PRE-N Router.

Subscribe to a free dynamic DNS service for example DynDNS.org. Install the the client on your computer.

Instead of accessing your computer using IP address, you can access your computer using a hostname like homecomputer.ath.cx

It won't be effected by IP address changes as the client will update the DNS serverof the change.
