Display does not turn on after resuming from standeby after receiving magic packets

Asked by saxenasab in Miscellaneous Networking, Windows XP Operating System, VNC Remote Access Software

Hello Everybody,

I have the problem that when the machines are in standby mode and I send wake on LAN magic packets to wake up the machines and resume them from standby. The machine resumes from standby, however the display does not turn on. That is an issue for me because I use VNC to remotely connect to the machines and VNC gives the error "empty desktop size" as the display is black. When I  go to the machine physically touch the touchpad after it has resumed from standby, then the display turns on and then I can connect remotely using VNC.

I have played around with the power management settings on the NIC card and set it to "allow this device to bring the computer out of standby", still the same issue. I have tested this on both HP's and Lenovos on windows XP and it does the same thing. Any suggestions as to how can I get the display to turn on when the machine resumes from standby after receiving the wake on LAN magic packet.

The fact that I will have to go physically and touch the touchpad for the display to come on defeats the purpose of remote management. Your advice is greatly appreciated.Start Free Trial
