I tried to connect to the same VPN server with XP using a cable-modem and it worked just fine.

Browse All TopicsMy network looks like this: 2k server -> netgear fw -> Internet -> dsl modem/fw -> xp pro / 2k workstation(s)
I can connect to my VPN server (via PPTP) with a 2k workstation and map a drive without any problems. XP pro connects to the vpn server but doesn't see any shared drives. I did try installing netbios on xp pro but that didn't seem to help.
I'd appreciate any suggestions. I'm sure there is something simple I'm missing.
thanks,
Victor

I have a similar issue where cable modem works fine but DSL modem does not. If a DSL router is installed between the PC and the modem the PC connects fine. In my case it appears to be due to the ISP setup. The link below explains the technical details. Linksys makes several inexpensive DSL routers which might fix your problem.
