The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Linksys WAG54G VPN issue

Asked by steve_taylor_ in Virtual Private Networking (VPN)

Hi,

I am getting a 628 error when attempting to connect to a VPN. This is the setup

VPN Client side:

Windows XP sp2 - Static IP address of 192.168.2.20
Linksys Wag54g(v1.2)  router -  Ip address of 192.168.2.1
pptp and ipsec passthrough are enabled
ports 47,1723,500,51 and 52 have been added to the port range forwarding list.
DHCP is not enabled
ISP is wanadoo

VPN Server side(different site):
Windows XP - Static IP address of 192.168.1.20
Zoom ADSL x4 modem static address of 10.0.0.2 and a WAN address of 10.0.0.7
ports 47,1723,500 have been added to the virtual server page , these point to the wan address
Linksys BEFSR81(v2) router 192.168.1.1
ISP is BT

Phew ! Right, the VPN connection definately works because:

1) I can dial up on a laptop and connect successfully
2) If i use a USB modem on the the VPN client machine ( ie bypassing the router ) it works.

but if i connect via the router i receive the error 628 after the verifiying user name stage.

The only other information I can offer is that i have been using the www.canyouseeme.org website to check that these ports are showing that they are open. With the router plugged i can see port 1723 open on the website.

I have also set the VPN client up in the DMZ on the router ( ie just put in the address 192.168.2.20 ) but it still does not work via the router.

Does anyone have any ideas ??? should i change the client router address to something completely different as opposed to just changing the subnet from 1 to 2 ?

Linksys have been a little bit of help but we are now going round in circles.

Thanks,

Steve
