Is it possible to set up VPN without static ip on either end?

I'm brand new to the world of VPN, so please bear with me. After installing a simple wireless router for a dentist's office, the customer decided she wanted to access the work computer from home which would require vpn. I asked a friend who knows more than me about vpn, and he said there are utilities you can use to get around the need for static ip. The dentist office network uses dhcp and consists of 1 desktop machine and 1 laptop and that's it. She simply wants to be able to update a database file from home on her laptop, so it would be nice to avoid paying the extra money for static ip.

Everything I've found about setting up vpn makes it sound like static ip is a requirement on 1 side at least and the dynamic dns stuff can't be used on both sides. I bought an RV042 linksys router for the office and I'll be setting up the quickvpn software for her to use from home. The home router is a cheap trendnet wireless as I didn't think it mattered what kind of router it was since it's going thru the internet. That's why I'm surprised to hear about these setups where people have matching routers on both sides to make vpn work.

Please advise if static ip really is a necessity here, and if I'll still need any tricks to make this work after getting static ip going. If I'm going to advise her to upgrade her dsl service, then I want to be sure it's because there aren't any other options.
