The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

QuickVPN and Linksys RV042

Hi,

I've been trying to help my manager configure his RV042 at home for QuickVPN client connectivity and can't figure this out.  Forgive me if the answer has been posted in a previous thread but I read a dozen of them and can't find the info I need...  I am also a Cisco VPN guy so I am new to the Linksys VPNs and would appreciate any help you guys can provide.

The setup is as follows:

RV042 on Comcast cable modem with dynamic IP address that very rarely changes.
The remote client will need to access the entire LAN behind the router.
Once we can get a stable connection, we will setup DynDNS for resolving the FQDN of the WAN1 interface of the router so we can connect by name.

If I understand correctly (...the documentation is very bad...), the only thing we need to configure is the Client Access tab where we add usernames and passwords.  Right?

I did that and can connect for random amounts of time like 10 mins or less.  Also, ping to internal hosts times out from the tunnel but replies fine from inside hosts.

On the client, I ensured no firewall is running, the IPSec service is running.  The client error we are getting after the long delay is "The remote gateway is not responding. You will be disconnected, please try again later."

Note- I've tried this, except the suggestion of disabling DHCP: http://www.linksysinfo.org/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=19

THANKS
