Question

Cisco IPSec Client for Windows XP 64bit?

Asked by: chilemoore

Has anyone found a Cisco VPN compatible client that runs on Windows XP 64Bit.  Cisco support said that the client will be out in Q4 2006.  I have searched and searched with no luck.  The only thing I found was OpenVPN but was unable to get it to work.  Anyone?

As far as I know, Cisco has not developed a client for 64 bit yet...  I have seen some users install a Virtual Machine (VMWare) and use the 4.x clients within the VM though...

am surprised that Cisco has not brought it out yet, as 64 bit has been around a while...  :)

It's a  bummer,  The VM is what I'm doing right now but kinda a bummer.  64 has been out for a long time and thus far the only issues I have is with Adobe (adobe printer creation) and Cisco VPN.  I'm sure once vista is release there will be more support offered on Vista 64 systems (I hope)....

Until now, 64bit has been primarily in the server arena. Cisco does not, and never has, supported the VPN client on any server OS.
Now that 64bit user machines are hitting the market, I'm sure Cisco will follow with a proper client version for x64, but it probably won't be their #1 priority.
They do have a Vista Beta 2 VPN client beta. It doesn't work on any more recent vista release like RC1 or RC2..

I take one thing back..
on 11 Oct Cisco released a 2nd Vista beta client for RC1.
Their "Supported clients" matrix does not list WinXP64 as being supported on any current client (it specifically says "no"), and does not even show a roadmap for support.

Go ahead it appears Cisco will not come up with a VPN Client fro WinXP64.  Using my VM for now then I will halfto wait for vista.

Cisco are not developing x64 bit version of the traditional VPN client. I have purchased and am running the NCP Secure Entry Client which supports Cisco IPSEC VPN's and works on x64 Windows Clients.

I had the same issue as you - trying to run Cisco VPN Client on Vista 64 Bit.  I found the solution and it works easily and great.  NCP Secure Communications has a Universal VPN Client that is 64 Bit compatible.  They just released a beta on Monday that will import/convert the Cisco pcf file.  I was able to install & configure in about 2 mins.  The URL is: http://www.ncp.de/

Hi all

NCP Secure communications has a product that is called "Universal IPsec VPN client"

http://ncp-e.com/

It is compatible to Cisco and should even support .pcf files.

The Shrew Soft VPN Client is free, and supports x86 and x64 Windows, all versions including Windows 7
You can download the tool here: http://www.shrew.net/

Works well, you can import .pcf files from Cisco VPN client.
