The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Can't join domain over router to router RV082 VPN

Asked by gs-rho in Virtual Private Networking (VPN), Miscellaneous Networking, Windows 2003 Server

Tags: , , ,

Hello all
we set up a router to router VPN with RV082 routers between cities.
The VPN works great. We can ping and transfer files at over 1 Mbps when we connect to a NetBIOS share, from LAN to LAN.
There is a Windows Server 2003 R2 server on 1 side of the router. On the other side, we have several Windows XP Pro computers. Everything is new. The Xp PCs can reach the Internet. They receive their IPs via DHCP from the router on their side. The router also provides the following DNS:
1) the router address  2) the win 2k3 server, which is a DC, DNS. The problem is that we can't join anything to the domain....
Even though, from a Windows XP workstation, we can browse the Internet fine, ping the server's IP, and ping the server by DNS FQDN name and NetBIOS name. So, I figured it was going to work no problem. But when trying to join the domain, by NetBIOS or FQDN domain name - no go. We also tried pinging the FQDN domain name, which usually works on domains and returns the IP of the PDC Emulator. In this case, it does not resolve to anything.
Crazy. Any ideas? We really need something on this soon. All help appreciated.Start Free Trial
