VPN Bandwidth usage

I just moved into a new place and unfortunately there's no ports left at my exchange for ADSL. The only option left to me is Wireless (3G) internet.  I do a fair bit of work from home via a VPN and need a guestimate of how much bandwidth (up and down) this takes...

The biggest plan currently available is 3GB per month with astronomical charges for additional usage.

I'm connecting to a Win 2k3 server via the built in XP connection wizard thing (I hope you know what I'm talking about)

You'd have to tell us more of what you want to do via VPN, and to what type of servers etc your connecting to. If you can work using terminal Services then the bandwidth can be kept low, if you have to logon to a M$ domain from remote etc then the bandwidth jumps up. It also depends on whether you have to transfer files and of which sizes etc.

Have you checked whether a cable connection is available?

Yeah, no cable in my area.

Doesn't really matter any more - apparently it ('Next G' from Telstra) doesn't support TS or Citrix, which I need both.  

I'll just have to play the waiting game for someone to drop their ADSL in my area (~200 houses on my RIM).  In the mean time I'll have to drive to the inlaws and use their connection to do some work :S

You could try something like logmein, that works through firewalls and you don't have to change anything on routers, so it would probably also run on your telstra connection. But it would have to be allowed by your company, as the software needs to be installed and run on the PC or server you want to connect to.
