Vpn help

I have a remote location that I need to access over a vpn connection, I have the connection established with 2 netgear gateways how do I access this connection with the xp systems? Can I just run the network wizard again and see the other systems?

If you have a router to router based VPN connection, you should be able to connect to the other side straight through without the need to do anything on your side. Have you tried accessing the other network resources already? Did you receive any error messages?

So as I understand it you already have the VPN configured between the 2 sites. to test connectivity you should be able to ping the remote gateways internal IP address from teh command line on any of the PCs in both locations. If you can't then we need to troubleshoot the configuration. If it's setup correctly you should be able to rdp to a remote IP address or connect to a windows share by going to the command line and typing \\10.10.10.10 for example.

Which applications are you trying to make work? Usually you need to use IP addresses instead of computer name unless you have all of the PCs on both networks pointed to the same or associated DNS servers.

I can ping both the gateway and systems inside the network but can not see them in network places, I have tried both browsing to them and typing in the command line the IP of the remote computer with no luck?

Thanks for the points.

In order to browse the remote network you need to enable a feature in the VPN configuration. I believe its called something like "enable netbios over VPN" or something to that effect. It's not a feature that's included in most firewalls that I've worked however I believe it was the the Netgear FVS318 and FVS328. Also something to note with this feature is that any time someone browses the network neighborhood it brought our internet connection to its knees. We had a 1.5Mb synchronous connection at the time.

Just one other note this is not an endorsement for these 2 netgear routers. We had nothing but problems with them, but they did have this one feature that I haven't seen in other routers. This may be a feature that is in other routers, but it just hasn't been obvious to me in looking at the configutations.

Yes one of the routers is a fvs318 I have not had any problems with it, I have the connection up and running and I think I'm going to make shortcuts for the user in the remote office so there will be no browseing. thanks for the help
