The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. SBS 2003 VPN Problem

Guys going a bit mad with this one so hope you can help.

I have setup a SBS 2003 with one Nic behind a Netgear WPN824v2 router running the latest firmware.  I have setup all the port forwarding on the router including 1723 for the VPN.  I have run both the Internet and Remote access wizards.  All other services are working i.e. RWW, web and email but I cannot get the VPN to connect from inside or out.  I receive the 800 error.

Logged in to the server using canyouseeme.org it says it cannot get through to the server on 1723 and I also cannot telnet on this port.  I have tried letting SBS configure the router via UNPP and again can see the VPN port open in the list but it looks like its still blocked.  I have also tried testing with the pptp_ping utility but it cannot make the connection either.

I have double checked all setting over and over and this is an identical setup to what I have working on other sites.  The only configuration difference is this server is running Trend.  I'm not that familiar with Trend by Im sure the firewall for the server is off (I have open the port here anyway).  I have also tested with all the trend services stopped to be sure.

Any ideas how to debug this further or what could be blocking it?  Can the VPN be configured to run on a different port?
