The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Cant connect to \\netbios server name but can connect via \\ipaddress and \\fqdn over VPN??

i have a user with a laptop connecting via VPN.
when he brings the laptop home and connects to vpn, he cannot access the netbios name of the server to view the shared folders. i.e. typing in \\fileserver shows no shares except users folder
if we type in \\IP_address then we can see the shares
if we type in \\fileserver.dnssuffix.local then we can also see the shares
if we log him out and log in as a local user (non - domain), we can connect to \\fileserver successfully.

on the server side we are using isa2004.

doing an ipconfig /all, ( i can't copy and paste right now)
the primary dns is there
wins proxy not enabled
connection-specific dns is specified ok too.
everything looks basically ok,

i can ping other computers, i can ping the server only by IP and FQDN. I had inserted a HOSTS entry to allow ping to the netbios name, which didnt help fix the problem.

so i believe its something i have to do on the server

i did do some googling and found http://forums.isaserver.org/m_2002014028/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm#2002014148 which was sort of similar but not exactly what i have, as i actually have a connection-specifice dns suffix.

what on earth do i do? ive got less than 12 hours to get this fixed, I am new to ISA and also terrified I will break something if I muck around with it.
