The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

PIX VPN Client can ping, but cannot remote desktop/telnet

Asked by GemmaCom in Virtual Private Networking (VPN), IPSec Security Protocol, Cisco PIX Firewall

Hi all,

I've setup the below PIX to allow users utilizing the cisco VPN client to connect and access resources such as exchange and file folders through the VPN from home, starbucks, or wherever.
Public IP (masked): xx.yy.zzz.aaa
internal IP subnet is 10.2.1.x SNM 255.255.255.0
VPN ip pool is 10.2.2.1-254 SNM 255.255.255.0.
internal ip of the PIX/internal default GW: 10.2.1.1
Main server users need access to: 10.2.1.10/255.255.255.0
Main server's default gw: 10.2.1.1

I can connect no problem to the PIX and can even ping the internal IP addresses listed above (10.2.1.10) and even some that are not the server (ie: network printers, other computers on their small network).  I can even ping from an internal computer/server to the IP address assigned to the vpn client (ie: 10.2.2.2).

Problme I'm having is actually connecting to the main server for either remote desktop or with outlook via ip address or name of the server (using a local lmhost file to resolve the name to ip address).

Your help is greatly apprecaited,

Jason
