Here is the basic info about my setup:
Hardware:
2-Wire Modem
Linksys RV042
3 Windows systems in a peer-2-peer network
RV042 Config:
WAN1
IP: 209.181.xx.108
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.248
Gateway: 209.181.xx.110
DNS: (As per my ISP reccomendations)
LAN
IP: 192.168.1.200
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
2-Wire Modem Configuration
WAN
IP: 209.181.xx.105
Gateway: 209.181.xx.110
DNS: (As per my ISP reccomendations)
LAN
DHCP Server for 192.168.1.x network
All traffic is forwarded to the 209.181.xx.108 address via the DMZ setting on the 2-Wire modem
3 Windows Machines are connected to the LAN, 1 with Static IP, 2 with Dynamic
I have the RV042 connected to the 2-Wire modem with 2 Cat5e cables:
One cable connected from the 2-Wire [LAN] port to the RV042 [WAN1] port
One cable from a 2-Wire [LAN] port to an RV042 [LAN] port (This is for the VPN Client after it has connected, to communicate with the LAN Clients)
-I can ping the RV042 from the internet, as well as manage it via HTTPS over the internet.
--QuickVPN--
-I have configured Quick VPN Users, as well as PPTP users.
-When I connect via QuickVPN, I hang at the Verifying network stage.
-I have researched this "Verifying Network Error" extensively and tried from both a fully patched XP SP2 Machine and a Vista machine.
--PPTP--
-I have connected via PPTP and I can get connected, but cannot ping any of the machines on the other end. (I get a Destination unreachable: 66.62.109.6 error)
Questions to get me going (or maybe you can get me going with some other solution):
1. Do I need a special ISP to use PPTP or will a standard DSL or Cable Connection suffice (I've seen it mentioned that you must have a PPP Service provider)?
2. Is my IP Addressing and Cabling connection correct?
3. Am I creating a routing loop by having the second router behind the 2-Wire Modem/router?
4. Does PPTP provide a two way tunnel that the a LAN PC can connect back to the remote PC?
Thanks in advance for your help!!!
God Bless,
-Scott
