Recommended ADSL+2 VPN QOS router for remote site to connect 3com Hardphone 3102 to our main NBX Site
Tags: 3COM, NBX, V3000, REMOTE HARDWARE VPN, 3COM NBX VPN QOS ROUTER
In our main office we have a NBX V3000 with Release 6 Software everything is working fine but a need to connect remote 3com 3102 sets on a different site which has an internet connection. we need to establish a VPN Pass through connection from the remote site network to our main site network what are the recommended hardware (if there is an ADSL2+ router modem which supports VPN pass through?) to do this and what configurations need to be made to allow the connection of the 2 sites through the internet..

we already use PCXSET to connect through a client VPN connection on a single machine but we need to use normal 3com 3102 sets without involving a PC... thanks in advance ...

Also our main site uses ISA 2006 Server as the VPN Server on a WINDOWS 2003 R2 Server... our setup does not use SIP  AND we use telindus 1421 SHDSL router modem for the 512kb internet connection

Not sure why you are looking for a router that will have VPN passthrough when the telindus 1421 supposedly handles VPNs. Why not setup the ADSL2+ router to establish a VPN with your ISA 2006.
If telindus does not have VPN capability, why not get a router for the remote location capable of establishing a VPN to your ISA 2006 server?
There are several integrated ADSL2/2+ VPN routers
For example D-link DSL-G804V
You can get any number of VPN routers from linksys, netgear, d-link, cisco which can provide the PPPoE credentials to the telindus modem which would need to be set to bridging mode.  In bridging mode, your VPN router will have the internet facing IP.

Dear Arnold
"Not sure why you are looking for a router that will have VPN passthrough "

on the contrary we are not looking for a vpn passthrough on the remote site we need Adsl Vpn dial in with QOS that had been implemented with 3com nbx on main site and hard phone 3102 on remote site

My reading of the specs for the telindus modem is that it supports VPN.
http://www.arcadiz.com/content/assets/docs/1421shdsl_router.pdf

http://www.emtec.com.au/download/manuals/Telindus_1421_SHDSL_Router%20v1.5.pdf
Look on 7.6.1 page 148 explains the IPSEC/L2TP VPN.  Starting from page 151 it goes through setting up an IPSEC/L2TP VPN both inbound and outbound.

Have a look and if you have any question, post what you have setup and what questions you might have.  Is your ISA server setup includes IPSEC/L2TP vpn setup or is it only PPTP VPN?

dear arnold
thanks for your prompt reply
however there is no problem on the server side VPN is working fine on pcs accessing the main site and softphone (pcxset of 3com is working on windows pcs)
the problem is we want an Adsl+2 VPN router on the remote site so that we can install a Hardphone 3Com 3102 and would be connected to the main site (and the Adsl has to have some kind of QOS to priotrize Voip )

I think I am missing something.  Is the telindus on the remote site or is telindus what you use on your main site?

The telindus has the QoS which you can use to prioritize specific traffic.  Most routers have the QoS some have the VOIP specifically identified, others you have to know which port protocol it uses and designate that as a priority.

The question is have you had a chance to see whether the equipment you already have can do the job or do you really need a new ADSL2+ VPN router/modem or whether you can keep the telindus to do the SHDSL and a VPN router to do the VPN and QoS stuff.

the telindus is in our main site (with the 3com NBX3000) and we are not setting it up as a VPN server the ISA server 2006 software is runnig vpn server in the mean time (dnt think we have to we might when QOS in main site is needed)
the current Adsl router we have does not support VPN dial in at the remote site
we have the D-link 2540T (which doesnt have VPN dial In to the the main site)
we need a new Adsl+2 router VPN QOS  and then add the hard phone 3com 3102 set it up and voila i hope

Any reason you are not considering using a telindus for the remote location??
Since your ISA server does the vpn, why not use the D-link at the main site and put the telindus at the remote site?  It might be better to get a second telindus with 3des for the remote site and upgrade the main sites' telindus with a 3des chip.  Then you can do site-to-site VPN using the telindus.  This way when maintenance is done on the ISA, the phones will still work.

the telindus  is owned by the ISP service provider (that we have a contrcat with for 512Kb SHDSL ) so i guess he has the same telindus on his side as well .
However there isnt any telindus Adsl routers to buy in Egypt and not even on amazon (our main resource for IT hardware ) awkward but that is the case
so any Adsl+2 VPN QOS router you suggest will have to find in egypt or amazon
we do have D-link and Linksys and 3com and cisco (which i think would be way to expensive as we have about 12 sites to implemnt the solution in)
