The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

User is connecting to a pretty standard VPN setup (specs at bottom of question).

The issue occurs on a users laptop. They plug directly in to their modem (no router) and can connect/authenticate/register on the VPN no problem. When navigating to \\vanserver, all they see is the shared folder "Users". Opening that folder they see 1 more folder which is their username. Within that folder there is nothing -- the folder appears empty.

When I connect to the *same* VPN IP from any other computer, using the *same* username/password, I can see all the shared folders and printers in \\vanserver, I can see all the users folders in \\vanserver\users, and when I open the users own folder, it's fully populated with her documents and whatnot.

I cannot determine what settings to possibly check on the laptop that would alter what folders and files she can/cannot see. I re-created the VPN myself and left everything on the default settings on both the computers that DO work and the laptop that doesn't to no avail. I am using the same username/password and see all files/folders so I've ruled out permissions and don't know where to turn.

The server is running SBS Server 2003 SP1.
The router at the server is a Linksys RV082 firmware 1.3.2
The computer able to connect but not able to see most folders / all files is running WinXP and is current with updates, as are the computers that do see the files/folders.
