Hi
We have a remote site that VPN's onto our local network to access the Internet so that it can be restricted. The router at the remote site failed which was replaced by a Netgear DG834 ADSL Router.
The remote site has a domain laptop and a stanalone PC.
Ever since the router has been replaced the standalone PC has not been able to connect to the Windows VPN connection. It gets to the authentication stage and then just times out and throws a Error 721: The remote PC failed to respond.
The laptop connects fine through the same router with no issues whatsoever.
I have tried updating the PC to service pack 3, reinstalled network drivers, recreated the VPN connection using the same settings as the laptop and changed cabling from the PC to the router. However, the problem still is occurring.
All required ports and services are allowed through the router/firewall at both ends (PPTP & GRE) as the laptop connects up fine.
I have also took another PC down to the site and tried it but that failed to connect as well - it came up with Error 721 as well.
Last week I took a domain laptop down to the site which intially did not connect, but after a few attempts to connected fine.
Really can't understand why the PC fails to connect when the laptops connect up fine. The PC used to connect up ok before the router was replaced. It can't be because the PC is not on the domain, as I have successfully connected my home laptop through a VPN connection fine and that is not on the company domain. Also, am I right in thinking that you can have more than one PPTP connection going through the same router at the same time?
Any ideas on what else I could try?
Thanks
