I have already asked this question, but due to the amount of time waiting for Netgear, I closed the call here.
So here goes again.
I have three laptops, 1 x XP OS, running SPK 3, 1 x Vista OS, running SPK and 1x Vista OS (running base level install, no updates at all) 1 x Netgear router (WNR834Bv2). The configuration was setup fine to allow the XP machine to connect to my companies Smoothwall VPN tunnel, this works 100% with no troubles.
My problem is with the Vista machine(s), here is the confusing bit. If I attempt to connect to my company using the built in analogue port, good old IC24 ISP, I can connect fine. If I use a Vodafone Data-card the story is the same, it works.
If I attempt to connect to work through my cable router I get an Error 800. This happens on both Vista machines when running through the router. (with and without the built in Vista firewall turned off, throught the control panel)
The question,
Does Vista handle the network connection security differently compared to the analogue and Data card connection?
I have even opened ports 50,51, 1701,1723 as per Netgear support, but why would I need to open these ports when the XP machine works with them closed.
Rather confused and lost faith in Vista
