Site to Site VPN with Cisco ASA5505 in a test environment

I would like to setup a site-to site VPN between two 5505's. One of the ASA's will be on the other side of the US so I wanted to get the tunnel configured and established before I ship the ASA. Can I test a site to site setup with the two ASA's on the same external subnet? I have a range of 6 public IP's and I have setup the outside interfaces on each ASA with a switch in between them, but I can't establish a tunnel. If this is not possible does anyone have any suggestions on how to set this up for testing. I was thinking I may have to take one of the ASA's home with me and test from there.
