Rather than wiping the machine and reinstalling a 32-bit Vista OS, does anyone know how to connect to the VPN using the Windows NATIVE vpn client? If so, can you please provide instructions?

ikalamar,
Thanks for the quick response. The VMware answer is good, but I'm trying to keep it simple. I also wanted to avoid purchasing any new software since I already have the Cisco VPN client 5.0 - it just doesn't work for 64-bit Vista. I am downloading the NCP client to see how that works, but my goal is to use the NATIVE vpn client that ships with Vista.

L2TP configuration for Cisco 3000
Status:
iKalmar - I apprecaite your suggestions but they will not work for me.
RPPreacher - I went through the instructions on the Cisco link that you provided. I modified the registry adn changed my VPN settings to use L2TP over IPSec, however the connection failed. In addition, it looks as though I have to set L2TP over IPSec at the BASE group, which will cause my functional VPN users to stop working. In addition, the article is for Win2000K and XP, so I suspect that making these registry modifications in VISTA may not work. Do you have this configuration up and running? Thoughts?

If you are running Windows Vista x64, there is a third party client called NCP Secure Entry Client. You can import your Cisco VPN client settings to this client. It's not freeware, but it solves the x64 Vista compatibility issue.
