Question

Cisco VPN Client

Asked by: bmsjeff

I have an issue trying to connect to a specific location from my home.  This is the only connection that doesn't work.  I am using 10+ other VPN client connections that work fine.  This particular connection works anywhere else other than at my home.

Here is the log:

do all your other VPN connections use the same type of connection im wondering if its simply a port/setting in your home router that is blocking the port that this particular connection needs

by: bmsjeffPosted on 2009-10-05 at 19:37:49ID: 25501529

Yes, they are all configured the same, so it is not a port issue.   I can ping and Telnet into the IP.

by: bmsjeffPosted on 2009-10-05 at 19:57:02ID: 25501590

I have never waited long enough for it to time out.  I will give it a try.
It is the same, wired or wireless.

by: bmsjeffPosted on 2009-10-05 at 20:00:22ID: 25501598

It just goes to not connected.  No error message is received.

by: augwestPosted on 2009-10-05 at 20:06:28ID: 25501614

hmm thats odd because usually it will give you a 413 or something like that after the connection fails, it opens acts like it makes the connection then disconnects right away.

Do you have anything in your event viewer about the vpn connection

by: augwestPosted on 2009-10-05 at 20:09:29ID: 25501630

Also what operating system are you using?

by: bmsjeffPosted on 2009-10-05 at 20:12:23ID: 25501645

Nothing in the event viewer.

what kind of router do you have at home?
Please check the VPN passthrough.....

by: bmsjeffPosted on 2009-10-06 at 06:26:34ID: 25504713

It's a Westell Wirespeed 327w
I don't see a VPN passthrough option.  The Firewall is Off.

I can connect to other VPN clients with this exact same configuration.

I have done that, also tried tcp.  UDP is what all other connections are set as.
I connected to this IP via UDP today at a BW3's today.  I still cannot connect here at home.

by: augwestPosted on 2009-10-07 at 13:14:57ID: 25519537

the only thing it must be then is that your home router is block the port that this particular connection uses you will need to go into your router settings to check it out.

by: bmsjeffPosted on 2009-10-07 at 13:21:36ID: 25519604

Why would it not block the other VPN Connections?

by: augwestPosted on 2009-10-08 at 09:33:48ID: 25527291

It could simply be blocking the port that the firewall your connecting to is using.

by: bmsjeffPosted on 2009-10-11 at 17:53:15ID: 25548092

How would the westell be blocking the port if the firewall is off?

by: bmsjeffPosted on 2009-10-11 at 18:49:30ID: 25548216

I just upgraded my firmware from 3.00.63a to 4.04.03.00 and it is now working correctly.  Still not sure why the others would work, but just not this one.

by: augwestPosted on 2009-10-15 at 13:08:15ID: 25584308

As i said it could be block one of the ports that connection used. the connections dont just use one port they can use multiple, it was clearly the firewall in the router blocking it as a firmware update you did fixed the issue
