SBS2003 Win7 clients (remote) cannot access network shares via VPN WinXP xcan

I am having issues with SBS2003 server and remote users.
My Windows XP users can connect via VPN and access all files.
My Windows 7 users can connect via VPN and cannot see shares
When looking at the ipconfig of both os's I see that the winxp users get a default gateway in their PPP address where as the win7 users there is no gateway. (I have also attempted with Firewall turned both on and off in win7.
If I ping from winxp server name it resolves
If I ping server name from win7 it does not resolve
If I ping fqdn form win7 ie. server.domain.local it resolves
winxp \\server displays network shares
win7 \\server says network error.

Appreciate any guidance.

Try win7 \\server_IP_address and see if it resolves. You may need an entry in your local hosts file.  ... Thinkpads_User

Followed your blog and this worked a treat as these were non domain joined clients. Pity every time I deploy one I must manually configure these entries. I was so close on my own as I did manually configure server dns is under IPV4 on the PPP connection but I didn't complete adding the dns suffice for this connection. Once I did all resolved.
Thanks
You don't actually have to do it manually.  You can create a deployable client using CMAK.  Download it to the client machine, 'click' on it and it will install a customized VPN client.  It allows you to pre-configure the client, increase security, and even use your logo.
I have outlined how to do so in the following link:
